Umpqua Bank

Economic trends landing page

Overview

Umpqua Bank, the largest financial institution in the Northwest, produces an annual economic trends report to help business customers forecast financial trends and make informed decisions. This report is one of Umpqua’s most visible and well-funded campaigns, generating significant new website traffic and strengthening its reputation as a trusted financial partner.

Our goal was to design and launch a dedicated landing page to promote the report and drive new traffic to the site — all within a compressed two-week timeline during the bank’s merger with Columbia Bank.

My Role

I served as Lead Designer, responsible for creating a user-centered landing page that aligned with Umpqua Bank’s evolving focus on business customers with over $1 million in revenue.

Key contributions

  • Designed the landing page layout with a focus on scannable content and intuitive navigation

  • Created wireframes highlighting a clean structure, visual hierarchy, and consistent navigation elements

  • Sourced imagery and created supporting assets to align with campaign goals

  • Built the campaign directly in production using Optimizely, saving valuable time

Key challenges and solutions

Tight timeline and resource constraints

The project coincided with Umpqua’s merger with Columbia Bank, leaving limited resources and support. I collaborated closely with our Web Coordinator to prioritize tasks, streamline production, and deliver on time despite tight deadlines and limited stakeholder feedback.

Meeting user needs

Our primary audience included busy CEOs and decision-makers. I prioritized scannable, actionable content that aligned with their fast-paced workflows. The page featured four key report categories represented as cards for quick scanning and selection. These cards also appeared at the bottom of topic pages to encourage seamless exploration.

Designing and building efficiently

To meet the two-week deadline, we built the campaign directly in Optimizely’s production environment, avoiding staging and speeding up delivery. Our collaborative approach enabled us to produce a polished, on-brand landing page that met campaign goals.

Outcomes

  • Delivered a high-quality landing page within a two-week timeline

  • Drove new traffic to the Umpqua website, supporting business growth goals

  • Strengthened Umpqua’s reputation as a resource for actionable business insights

Opportunities for future improvement

  • Add jump links or sticky navigation for faster in-page navigation

  • Improve hover link colors for better accessibility

  • Include breadcrumb navigation arrows for clearer user cues

  • Further optimize the page for mobile users

Business impact

  • Increased website traffic through a successful campaign launch

  • Supported business audience engagement with actionable, easy-to-navigate content

  • Enhanced brand reputation as a trusted advisor for financial decision-makers
